Andesine is an intermediate member of the plagioclase feldspar solid-solution series between sodium-rich Albite and calcium-rich Anorthite. Rather than having one perfectly fixed composition, Andesine is commonly defined compositionally at approximately An₃₀ to An₅₀, where An represents the molar percentage of the Anorthite component.

Its chemistry can therefore be represented as a mixture between NaAlSi₃O₈ and CaAl₂Si₂O₈. It crystallizes in the triclinic crystal system.
