What Is Pectolite?

Pectolite is a valid mineral species with formula NaCa₂Si₃O₈(OH). It crystallizes in the triclinic system, belongs to the Wollastonite Group, and commonly forms radiating, fibrous, or acicular aggregates.

Its hardness is about 4.5 to 5 on the Mohs scale. Pectolite is usually white, gray, or colorless, though copper-bearing blue material from the Dominican Republic is sold as Larimar.

History & Symbolism

Franz von Kobell named Pectolite in 1828. There is no securely documented ancient spiritual tradition under the mineralogical name Pectolite.
