Rutilated Quartz is quartz containing visible crystals of rutile, a titanium dioxide mineral (TiO₂). The inclusions may appear as fine golden needles, reddish-brown strands, dark prismatic crystals, silvery tufts, or intersecting stars. The quartz is the host mineral; the rutile is a separate included mineral trapped within it during or before crystal growth.

Inclusion patterns vary naturally from specimen to specimen, which is why two pieces rarely look exactly alike.
