What Is Spodumene?

Spodumene has the formula LiAlSi₂O₆, crystallizes in the monoclinic system, and has a Mohs hardness of about 6.5–7. It is a clinopyroxene found especially in lithium-rich granitic pegmatites.

Gem varieties include pink-to-violet Kunzite and green Hiddenite, both of which have separate identities in the gem trade.
